The light and the dark sides of the moonrock...

Superquarry Squash Blossom is a silver necklace set with Harris anorthosite, a native rock also found on the moon. The design is inspired by the Isle of Harris Superquarry saga and the Native American Warrior Chief, Sulian Stone Eagle, who helped save Harris’s Mount Roineabhal from destruction. The necklace is double sided to reflect the light and dark sides of the ‘moonrock’, the Superquarry conflict and the usage of sacred rock in souvenirs.

“That necklace …. wow! It blew me away, bringing a tear to my eye. This is a profoundly important piece of art.

Maeve Gillies is from a family that is steeped in Gaelic tradition bearing. Her necklace is made from silver and from dark and light polished ‘moonrock’ from Roineabhal. Eagles grasp the central stone in their talons. It speaks to our present times. It speaks to the light and dark in every one of us.

Great art touches on the sacred. It opens up our eyes to the deeper realms of our humanity.

The Eagle power you’ve packed in there, Maeve…how the Eagle spirit holds the light and dark together -truly beautiful. Really amazing, powerful symbolism.

This is not just a work of art. This piece of jewellery is a profound meditation on the theology of fall and redemption. This, in ways too deep for words, is a meditation on you and me.”
